Roma Push Ahead on Rodrigo Mora as Luis Henrique Deal Waits in the Wings

Rodrigo Mora
  • Roma and FC Porto are now close to a revised Rodrigo Mora agreement built around €25m for 50 per cent of his rights
  • Roma will have the option to buy the remaining 50 per cent from FC Porto for another €25m at the end of the season
  • Luis Henrique has reportedly approved a move to Roma, but the deal is temporarily on hold while Roma complete Mora signing

Roma and Porto reshape the Mora deal

Roma and FC Porto appear to have made a decisive adjustment in their negotiations for Rodrigo Mora, with the clubs now working towards a structure that would see the Serie A side pay €25m immediately for 50 per cent of the player’s contract.

The updated arrangement would also give Roma the option to purchase FC Porto’s remaining 50 per cent share for another €25m at the end of the season. If Roma do not activate that option, Porto would keep 50 per cent of any future transfer fee.

The talks had been ongoing for weeks without a clear breakthrough, largely because the two clubs had been unable to agree on how to spread the cost of a total €50m package.

Why the earlier proposal stalled

Roma and FC Porto had seemed close to an agreement last week based on a loan worth €10m, with an option to buy for a further €40m. That option would have become an obligation if specific conditions were met.

The difficulty came from the nature of those conditions. Porto wanted the obligation to be almost guaranteed, while Roma preferred to connect it to targets such as Champions League qualification or even the Scudetto.

Multiple sources in Italy and Portugal are now said to be aligned on the revised terms, with the clubs moving towards the finish line. There is hope the agreement can be completed within days, particularly as Mora is not part of coach Francesco Farioli’s plans.

Luis Henrique gives approval, but Roma wait

Alongside the Mora negotiations, Luis Henrique has reportedly approved a move to Roma. Inter and the Giallorossi are described as close to completing a deal worth €30 million for the Brazilian winger.

The clubs have reached an agreement on the basis of €30 million, although final details still need to be resolved before the transfer can be completed. Luis Henrique’s reported approval has advanced the proposed move, but the deal remains dependent on those outstanding points.

Roma want to close a deal for Luis Henrique and contacts are underway. Inter are asking for an obligation to buy worth €28-30M, while Roma are starting closer to €22M. According to Sportingpedia sources in Italy, despite the agreement, the Luis Henrique situation is temporarily on hold because Roma want to complete the Rodrigo Mora deal first.

Only after the Mora transfer is finalised will Roma move with Inter to secure the Brazilian winger.
