Kane Ready for Bayern Contract Discussions
Harry Kane has confirmed that talks over extending his Bayern Munich contract beyond 2027 are expected to begin shortly, with both the player and the club taking a measured approach to the situation.
The 33-year-old England captain, speaking to reporters at a media day in Munich on Monday, said negotiations had been put back until after his return from a post-World Cup holiday, but he now expects movement soon.
“I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week or next week,” Kane said of the extension talks.
“We’re calm, they’re calm with the situation. Obviously now’s the time to start talking, because with only a year left it’s important.
“But both sides are relaxed, and I’m pretty sure there’ll be talks this week or next week.”
Kane joined Bayern in 2023 on a four-year contract and has since delivered an extraordinary attacking output, scoring 146 goals in 147 games across all competitions. During his time in Munich, he has won two Bundesliga titles and a German Cup, while Bayern have reached the Champions League semi-finals in two out of three seasons.

Bayern’s Admiration Remains Clear
Bayern have repeatedly made clear that they want Kane to remain at the club, having described the former Spurs striker as their “best transfer ever” at the end of last season.
Kane’s next agreement is expected to run until at least 2029, although the striker’s comments indicate that formal discussions are only now about to begin.
| Subject | Detail |
|---|---|
| Current Bayern deal | Four-year contract signed in 2023, running beyond 2027 discussions now expected |
| Kane’s Bayern record | 146 goals in 147 games in all competitions |
| Major honours at Bayern | Two Bundesliga titles and a German Cup |
| Champions League progress | Semi-finals in two out of three seasons |
| Reported new deal length | Until at least 2029 |
Ballon d’Or Backing from Matthaeus
Kane’s form has also earned high-profile support in the Ballon d’Or conversation. On Tuesday, German World Cup winner Lothar Matthaeus said the Bayern striker should be considered the favourite for the award, which will be presented in October.
Matthaeus, who won the Ballon d’Or in 1991, argued that Kane “deserves” the honour more than any other player after a standout season in which he scored 61 goals in 51 games.
“(Kane) delivered outstanding performances and, in my opinion, didn’t have a single weak spell,” Matthaeus wrote in a column for Sky Germany.
Supercup Role Still Unclear
Bayern, the defending Bundesliga champions, will face Borussia Dortmund in the season-opening Supercup on Saturday. Kane, however, has not confirmed whether he will start the match, saying: “That’s not certain. I’ve already spoken to the coach about it. It’s only a week of preseason, but I’m used to this quick transition. I’ve played in these tournaments almost every year in my career. We have to wait and see. Whether it’s 90 minutes or 45 depends on how I feel this week.”
Al-Hilal Interest and Palhinha Developments
Meanwhile, sources confirm striker’s brother and agent, Charlie, has met with Al-Hilal to discuss a potential blockbuster move as the Bayern Munich star considers his next move.
In other Bayern Munich news, Benfica and João Palhinha have agreed personal terms on a 4-year contract until 2030, with a salary worth around €6m gross per year. The Portuguese side are now offering Bayern €15m fixed plus €5m in performance based add-ons.
Benfica believe they can close a deal with Bayern very soon due to the player’s preference to return to Portugal.
