AC Milan Stand Firm as Porto and Como Test the Market for Gimenez and Ricci

Milan striker Santiago Gimenez
  • Milan have rejected Porto’s proposal for Santiago Gimenez, which was based on a free loan and a €15m option to buy
  • Como have opened talks for Samuele Ricci and have reached a broad agreement with the midfielder’s camp
  • Milan are holding out for stronger financial terms on both players, with permanent-sale structures preferred

Milan Reject Porto’s Gimenez Package

AC Milan have turned down an approach from Porto for Santiago Gimenez, with the Serie A club unhappy with both the value and the structure of the offer.

Porto put forward a deal built around a free loan and an option to buy worth €15m. That option would have become an obligation if specific conditions were triggered.

Milan rejected the proposal outright. The Rossoneri believe the figure is not high enough to justify allowing Gimenez to leave permanently and are therefore demanding a larger fee before considering a sale.

Gimenez Has Given Porto Encouragement

Porto do have an important advantage in negotiations, as Gimenez has reportedly already approved the move. The Mexican forward has held discussions with head coach Francesco Farioli and has given his consent to the switch.

That personal agreement strengthens Porto’s hand, but it does not resolve the main issue between the clubs. Milan and Porto still have to bridge the financial gap before any deal can move forward.

Gimenez joined Milan from Feyenoord for over €30m in January 2025, but his time at the club has been affected by fitness concerns and inconsistent form. He has recorded seven goals and six assists in 37 appearances, while an ankle injury sustained since the World Cup kept him out of pre-season entirely.

With Gonçalo Ramos now first choice under Ruben Amorim, Milan see little role for Gimenez this season. Even so, they remain unwilling to sanction his departure for a fee they consider undervalued. Porto will need to return with an improved offer if they want to complete the transfer before the window closes.

Como Move for Ricci as Squad Needs Grow

Como have also entered negotiations with Milan, opening talks over a move for Samuele Ricci as the Serie A season gets underway.

According to Sportingpedia sources, Como have reached a broad agreement with Ricci’s representatives. Their interest is partly driven by the need to add more Italian-qualified players in order to satisfy squad-list requirements for both Serie A and their debut Champions League campaign.

Cesc Fabregas views Ricci as a strong tactical fit for his team, but Como’s first proposal has not been accepted. Their offer was based on a loan with an option to buy, a structure Milan have rejected.

Milan Want a Permanent Deal for Ricci

Milan are insisting on a permanent sale for Ricci after paying over €20m to sign him from Torino last summer.

The midfielder made 34 appearances and scored once during a difficult first season at San Siro. He is among several players, including Tomori and Fofana, who are considered surplus to Ruben Amorim’s plans. Ricci remains under contract with Milan until 2029 and is reported to earn a €2.5m net salary.

Atalanta have also made contact regarding the midfielder. Maurizio Sarri is said to be an admirer of Ricci, giving Milan another route to explore if talks with Como become blocked by disagreements over the financial structure.
