Gimenez Negotiations Stall After Milan Rejection
Porto’s pursuit of Santiago Gimenez has reached a standstill, with reports in Portugal stating that the club have already started assessing alternative centre-forward targets after Milan turned down their latest approach earlier this week.
Gimenez is viewed as surplus to requirements at San Siro after Milan completed a club-record deal for Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this window. As a result, the Serie A side are now looking for a buyer for the Mexico international.
Porto had been among the clubs exploring a possible move for the striker, who joined Milan from Feyenoord in the winter of 2025 for €32m plus add-ons. However, the Portuguese club are prepared to step away from the deal if Milan’s terms do not move closer to their own valuation.
🚨⏳ UPDATE: Gimenez-Porto deal stalled
Milan and Porto had initially agreed on a €23M option to buy, which would become an obligation under certain conditions.

Milan’s Valuation Remains Above Porto’s Offer
Earlier this week, Milan rejected a Porto proposal built around an initial season-long loan with an option to buy for €15m. Milan want to receive a fee to allow Gimenez to leave on loan for the 2026-27 season, as well as an option or obligation to buy in the region of €20m-€25m.
Timber Emerges As Another Porto Target
Porto are also involved in discussions linked to Quinten Timber with talks taking place between the midfielder’s entourage and Portuguese giants Porto FC.
Marseille would ideally prefer to keep Timber, but the club’s financial situation means they cannot dismiss a strong bid. Interest in the Netherlands international is increasing, which has raised the possibility of a summer departure.
The 25-year-old would prefer a Premier League move this summer, despite being under contract with OM until the summer of 2030. Timber only arrived in the winter and went on to play 16 times between then and the end of the campaign.
Marseille have set a €22m price tag for the Dutchman, who participated with the Netherlands at the recent FIFA World Cup. Timber is not against leaving the Vélodrome this summer, provided the project presented to him is appealing.
