Antonello Leaves Marseille Ahead of the New Campaign
Marseille have confirmed in an official statement that CEO Alessandro Antonello has left the club. The Italian executive arrived in July 2025 and had occupied the position since that date.
Marseille thanked Antonello for his contribution during his time at the club, highlighting his involvement in several strategic areas, including commercial growth and stadium-related projects.
“He put his experience at the service of Olympique de Marseille to initiate several major projects, especially in the area of revenue development and the valorization of the stadium. The club expresses its gratitude to Alessandro for his dedication and the work done during this period. The projects he helped launch will be continued and strengthened within the roadmap defined by the new management,” the Provençal club wrote in its official statement.

Al-Sadd Bid Rejected for Nayef Aguerd
Marseille are also dealing with an important transfer issue involving Nayef Aguerd (30). According to Sportingpedia sources, the club have turned down a transfer proposal from Al-Sadd for the defender.
The Qatari club had already expressed interest a few weeks ago and are said to have returned with an offer worth €8m. Marseille’s management, however, considered that valuation insufficient and are demanding a higher fee before agreeing to let the Moroccan leave.
OM are keen to sell Aguerd in order to improve their financial position, but the club now have just ten days or so to find a solution. The situation is one the Marseille board would have preferred to avoid, particularly after they believed a departure had been arranged only a few days ago, before a move to Real Sociedad collapsed at the last minute.
Aguerd’s Contract and Recent Season
Aguerd remains under contract with Marseille until 2030. His latest season in the white and blue colours was affected by injuries, and he made just 22 appearances.
Strasbourg Fixture Starts the Ligue 1 Schedule
The southern French club will open their 2026/2027 Ligue 1 campaign today, August 21, with a home fixture against Strasbourg.
