Venezia Weigh Igor Tudor Option As Pressure Builds Around Stroppa

Juventus' head coach Igor Tudor
  • Venezia are currently bottom of Serie A after a frustrating start to the season
  • Giovanni Stroppa’s position could come under serious threat if results do not improve
  • Igor Tudor is currently viewed as the leading candidate on Venezia’s shortlist

Venezia Consider Change Amid Poor Start

Igor Tudor could be set for another opportunity in Serie A, with Venezia reported to be monitoring him as a possible successor to Giovanni Stroppa.

Stroppa’s role is no longer certain, with the Venice club dissatisfied by the way their season has begun. Venezia are currently rock bottom in the Italian top flight and are looking for a rapid response to their early difficulties.

If performances and results do not improve, Venezia are expected to consider making a managerial change. At this stage, former Tottenham manager Tudor is said to be the leading name on the club’s shortlist.

Lazio Fixture Could Prove Decisive

Venezia’s next match is against Lazio, who are unbeaten in the season so far. Should Stroppa fail to secure a result in that game, the pressure around his position could intensify significantly, raising the possibility that he may be dismissed.

Tudor appears to be waiting in the background as Venezia assess whether a change in the dugout is required. He was last seen managing Tottenham last season, although that spell was brief and Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment was needed to steer the club away from possible relegation.

Tudor’s Serie A Track Record

Tudor also has considerable experience in Serie A as a head coach, having taken charge in five spells across four Italian clubs.

He had two separate spells with Udinese, first in 2018 and again in 2019, helping the club avoid relegation on both occasions. He returned to Italian football with Hellas Verona in September 2021 and guided them to a ninth-place finish in 2021/22.

In 2024, Tudor had a short spell at Lazio, losing only two of his 11 matches. He then took over Juventus in March 2025 and led them to Champions League qualification. He remained in charge into the following season before leaving in October 2025.

Managerial Situation To Watch

For Venezia, the immediate priority is to halt their poor run and move away from the foot of the table. For Stroppa, the Lazio match could become a defining moment in his tenure, while Tudor’s name now sits prominently in the discussion should the club decide to act.
