Bayern Facing Multiple Availability Questions

Bayern Munich are dealing with several significant concerns before their Champions League meeting with Arsenal on Wednesday. The Bavarians are already without Michael Olise, who is suspended for the fixture, while Jamal Musiala will definitely miss the match.

There is also uncertainty around head coach Vincent Kompany, whose condition has become a serious issue in the build-up to the game. The Belgian is dealing with a severe virus and strong pelvic pain following a fall before Bayern’s match against RB Leipzig, which ended 6:1.

Kompany Struggling With Illness And Mobility Issues

According to Bild, Kompany had to lie down in the dressing room and spent most of the match seated. His injury has left him with serious problems when climbing stairs and walking. The situation has not improved – in fact, the latest information suggests it has worsened.

Kompany was absent from Bayern’s training session on Monday, with assistant coach Aaron Danks taking charge of the session. It remains unclear whether Kompany will be able to actively coach from the sideline against Arsenal on Wednesday, or whether he will sit on the bench as he did against Leipzig.

The Bayern coach is currently struggling with the flu, which is having a slight impact on his old scar tissue. He is also experiencing problems climbing stairs and standing for extended periods. If he is not fit in time, Danks is expected to take the main role in the coaching zone on Wednesday.

Sporting director Max Eberl remains hopeful that Kompany will be available against Arsenal, saying: “We strongly believe so, but I still cannot say exactly what his role will be.” Bayern’s hierarchy hope Kompany will be able to deliver the tactical briefing on Wednesday and lead the team from the coaching bench.

Neuer Decision Expected Today

Bayern are also waiting on the fitness of captain Manuel Neuer. Today it will become clear whether the goalkeeper can play against Arsenal in the Champions League on Wednesday, as he will undergo tests to assess his readiness.

Neuer missed Bayern’s last two matches because of foot problems. On Monday, he returned to training with the team, but remained on the pitch for about 40 minutes before going back to the dressing room. If Neuer is unable to play, Jonas Urbig will start in goal for Bayern.
