Disciplinary Ruling Confirms Two-Match Ban
Napoli coach Massimiliano Allegri has officially been punished by the Serie A Disciplinary Commission following his conduct late in the 3:3 draw with Roma and after the final whistle.
The ruling confirmed a two-match suspension and a fine of 10,000 euros, meaning Allegri will not be on the touchline for Napoli’s league away fixtures against Monza and Juventus this week. He had been shown a red card following an argument with the referees.
“Massimiliano Allegri of Napoli was handed a two-match suspension and a fine of 10,000 euros because in the 45th minute of the second half he made an offensive comment toward the refereeing team, in the dressing room he again made unpleasant and disrespectful remarks toward them, and he was also aggressive toward a member of the opposing staff. These violations were reported by the fourth official and by the match delegate, while the last violation was reported by the federal prosecutor,” the Disciplinary Commission’s statement said.

How Napoli Let Roma Back Into A Chaotic Contest
Allegri did not complete Napoli’s thrilling draw from the touchline, having been dismissed after his protests. The coach was angry about the decision, while also maintaining that his side had enough quality to climb the table.
Napoli twice surrendered advantages against Roma. They were 2-0 ahead in the 48th minute after Frank Anguissa and Scott McTominay scored either side of half-time. Matias Soule and Leonardo Balerdi then brought Roma level with two goals in five minutes.
McTominay struck again in the 83rd minute to restore Napoli’s lead, but they still could not secure the win. Balerdi equalised for the second time, and Allegri was later sent off for dissent after believing the Argentinian had fouled Sam Beukema in the build-up.
Allegri Furious Over Red Card
After the game, Allegri strongly disputed the dismissal when speaking to DAZN Italia.
“The fourth official called the referee and got me sent off, but I said absolutely nothing,” Allegri told DAZN Italia.
“Next time I will have to sit on the bench and not move, because every time I move, I get sent off. I had to pay €80,000 in fines last season, so maybe I shouldn’t even be on the touchline from now on.
“I see others who practically run onto the pitch, and nobody says anything; when I move, I’m punished.”
“I thank the fourth official, and for the rest, I can only congratulate the lads for their performance,” he added sarcastically.
Numbers Add To Pressure On Napoli
The dropped points represented a missed chance for Napoli to make a significant move up the table. Despite generating higher xG than Roma, 2.4 to 1.9, they came away with only a draw and remained 10th.
Allegri continues to face scrutiny at Napoli, with defensive issues again under the spotlight. Napoli have conceded six goals this week across two games in all competitions, including the Roma draw and a 4-3 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.
“I think the team played well, also defensively, against a strong side,” Allegri added.
“We had the chance to go 3-0 up; we then had the lead at 3-2 but conceded again. If we play with this spirit, we will climb the table.
“I changed my way of playing now; it is all on the attack. Since the start of the season, I even try to use four strikers if I can.
“Unfortunately, we’ve dropped a lot of points along the way. I’m still angry at the way the game ended, so I’m perhaps lacking sharpness in evaluating how the match went.”
Upcoming Absences
As a result of the Disciplinary Commission’s decision, Allegri will serve his two-match suspension during Napoli’s league away matches against Monza and Juventus this week. The punishment also includes the fine of 10,000 euros.
