“Of course, we want to achieve this record. It would mean a lot to us. It is truly special to go two straight seasons without an away defeat, but it will not be easy. We will try and chase this goal until the final minute. We have had enough time to say goodbye, now it is time to part ways on a positive note” said Alonso.
The 43-year-old Spaniard will leave Leverkusen this summer to take over as head coach of Real Madrid, replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who is set to take charge of the Brazil national team. Despite the constant speculation, Alonso refused to discuss his next role: “Let me finish everything here the right way first. There is a time for everything.”
