Atletico will pay €30 million for the American international, with an additional €2 million to be paid in bonuses. Cardoso will sign a five-year contract with Los Colchoneros. The player reportedly turned down several offers from other clubs, as his desire was to continue his career at Atletico.
Cardoso was born in the United States, but both of his parents are Brazilian, and he also holds an Italian passport. He is a former player of Avai and Internacional, from whom Betis signed him in 2024. Last season, the midfielder played a key role in Betis’ strong performance in La Liga and their run to the UEFA Conference League final.
It is expected that Betis will use the funds from the Cardoso deal to launch a move for Manchester United’s Antony, who had a memorable second half of the season after joining the Seville-based club on loan in January.
