Washington Wizards land McCollum as Poole heads to Pelicans in four-player trade

C.J. McCollum and Jordan Poole talk during NBA game between New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards

    Key Takeaways:

  • Pelicans trade McCollum and Olynyk to Wizards for Poole and Bey
  • Washington acquire veteran McCollum on expiring deal
  • Poole, 2023 NBA champion, heads to New Orleans

The New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards have completed another NBA trade just hours before the league’s draft. The Pelicans are sending CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk to the nation’s capital in exchange for Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey.

With this move, Washington brings in veteran McCollum, who is on an expiring contract. New Orleans, on the other hand, is rejuvenating its roster by adding Poole and Bey.

McCollum finished last season with averages of 21.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. Olynyk appeared in only 20 games for New Orleans and averaged 10.7 points and 5.9 rebounds. Meanwhile, the Wizards three-time NBA All-Star Khris Middleton has exercised his $33.3 million player option for the 2025–26 season and will remain in DC.

Poole was Washington’s top scorer last year, averaging 20.5 points per game. He is an NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors in 2023. Jordan Poole was selected with the 28th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Bey missed the entire season due to a torn ACL but is expected to be fully recovered for the new campaign.
