Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande

    Key Takeaways:

  • Palace to pay €55M for Sporting defender Diomande
  • Guehi exit to Liverpool looking increasingly likely
  • Five-year deal agreed as player set for major salary boost

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Sporting (Lisbon) for central defender Ousmane Diomande. According to reports in Portuguese and English media, the London club will pay €55 million for the 21-year-old Ivorian. The transfer will be a record-breaking one for Palace and appears to signal that the
Eagles are preparing to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool.

Information from the past two days suggests that the Merseyside club are closing in on the England international, who has already said “yes” to the Premier League champions and has made it clear he will not sign a new contract with his current team.

Diomande is set to sign a five-year deal with Crystal Palace. Although his contract with Sporting includes a release clause worth €80 million, the Portuguese club have stated they are willing to part ways with the player for a lower fee. While final details are still to be clarified, the two clubs have a verbal agreement in place for a €55 million deal.

The player currently earns just €500,000 per year at Sporting, so his wages will be substantially increased, although exact terms of his new contract have not been disclosed.
