Liverpool officially announced several changes to Arne Slot’s coaching staff. The most substantial one is that former Netherlands captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be the new assistant manager, after John Heitinga left earlier this summer to take over at Ajax.

Following a rich playing career that included spells at Feyenoord, Glasgow Rangers, Arsenal and Barcelona, Van Bronckhorst started his coaching journey as an assistant at Feyenoord before becoming head coach of the team between 2015 and 2019. He later had brief stints in charge of Guangzhou FC in China, as well as Rangers and Besiktas.

Xavi Valero is also returning to Liverpool as first-team goalkeeping coach after spending the last seven years at West Ham. The Spaniard first worked at Liverpool in 2007 when he was part of Rafa Benitez’ staff.
