    Key Takeaways:

  • Sporting will pay €25M for Almeria striker Luis Suarez as talks near completion
  • The Colombian forward will sign a five-year deal with an expected €80M release clause
  • Suarez finished as La Liga 2 top goalscorer last season with 27 goals

Sporting (Lisbon) will pay €25 million for Luis Suarez. The Almeria striker is getting closer to signing with the Lions who are in the final phase of negotiations with the Spanish club to secure their desired replacement for Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish forward will continue his career at Arsenal.

Sporting and Almeria are on the verge of an agreement for the permanent transfer of Luis Suarez to the Estadio Jose Alvalade. The deal, which is expected to be finalised in the coming hours, will be worth around €25 million and may include some bonuses.

Negotiations are nearing completion. As soon as an agreement is reached, the 26-year-old goalscorer could leave his team’s pre-season camp in Marbella to travel to Lisbon, undergo mandatory medical tests, and sign with Sporting.

In Lisbon, Luis Suarez will sign a five-year contract valid until 2030. The release clause is still to be confirmed, but it is expected to be €80 million. Although he currently plays in the second tier of Spanish football, Suarez has experience in La Liga. He was the top scorer in La Liga 2 last season with 27 goals.

It is unlikely the Colombian will be officially presented today. However, it is almost certain he will be available for the Portuguese Super Cup match against Benfica, scheduled for next Thursday at the Estadio Algarve.

At the moment, Sporting manager Rui Borges has only 20-year-old Konrad Harder as a central striker and is forced to use players from the B team, such as Rodrigo Ribeiro, to complete his attacking options. The club’s management is making every effort to ensure Luis Suarez is available for the derby at the start of the season.
