  • The final ended 1:1 after regular time and extra time in Basel
  • Chloe Kelly assisted the equaliser and scored the winning penalty

England is the new old European champion in women’s football! The Lionesses claimed a second consecutive title after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain, with the two sides finishing 1–1 after regular time and extra time in the Euro 2025 final, played at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland.

In the 25th minute, Mariona Caldentey opened the scoring for La Furia, but in the 57th minute, Alessia Russo equalised for England. Both teams had their chances, although Spain appeared to have the better opportunities.

In the penalty shootout, however, the English players were more precise and triumphed with an overall score of 4:2. The hero for England was Arsenal’s Chloe Kelly, who came on as a substitute, assisted the equalising goal, and scored the winning penalty for Sarina Wiegman’s team.

For the Dutch coach, this is a third consecutive European title — now two with England and one with the Netherlands.
