Liverpool defeated Yokohama F. Marinos 3:1 at Nissan Stadium in the third match of their pre-season tour. Liverpool’s latest addition Hugo Ekitike started up front on his debut. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo occupied the two flanks. Giorgi Mamardashvili, Milos Kerkez, and Florian Wirtz were also in the starting XI, with Jeremie Frimpong initially on the bench.

Before kick-off, a tribute was paid once again to the memory of Diogo Jota. Club legend Ian Rush laid a floral wreath, and nearly 70,000 spectators in the stadium lit up their phones and sang the song dedicated to the Portuguese forward.
