    Key Takeaways:

  • Girona scored twice in quick succession early in the second half
  • Wolverhampton responded through Jhon Arias but could not find an equaliser
  • Both teams have one more friendly before their league campaigns begin

Girona defeated Wolverhampton 2:1 in a friendly match as part of both teams’ pre-season preparations. All three goals came in the second half, with the Catalan side striking quickly in the opening 15 minutes after the break. Yangel Herrera opened the scoring in the 51st minute, and Joel Roca doubled the lead in the 56th. The Wolves managed to pull one back in the 76th minute through Jhon Arias, but it was nothing more than a consolation goal.

Both teams will play one more friendly before the start of the new campaign. Girona will play against Napoli (9 August), before starting the La Liga season at home against Rayo Vallecano (15 August). Wolverhampton, on the other hand, will conclude pre-season with a match against another Spanish team – Celta (9 August), and will then kick off the Premier League season with a home game against Manchester City (16 August).
