The salary reduction is aimed at easing the financial pressure on clubs that lose their place in Serie A. The rule will be applied to all contracts signed after 2 September 2025 – the end of the upcoming summer transfer window.
The new system automatically reduces salaries unless a different clause is included in the player’s contract. Existing contracts will remain subject to previously agreed terms. If a team returns to Serie A, the affected salaries will be restored to their original value.
The collective labour agreement also introduces a minimum wage structure based on the player’s age, which cannot be reduced even if the team is relegated from the top division.
