Vítor Pereira Secures New Wolves Deal Despite Dreadful Premier League Start

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Vitor Pereira

Key Takeaways:

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers have extended Vítor Pereira’s contract through to the conclusion of the 2028-2029 season
  • Pereira took the helm last December, succeeding Gary O’Neil with an 18-month agreement
  • The Wolves have suffered four straight defeats this campaign, currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table

Contract Extension for Pereira

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially announced a contract extension for their head coach, Vítor Pereira. The Portuguese manager, aged 57, has now committed his future to the Premier League side until the end of the 2028-2029 season.

Pereira’s Tenure and Team Performance

Pereira took charge of Wolverhampton last December, taking over from Gary O’Neil on an 18-month contract. Under his leadership, the club secured a 16th-place finish in the final league standings, successfully steering clear of relegation to the Championship.

Despite that stabilising finish, the Wolves have endured a difficult start to the new campaign, having lost four consecutive matches. The poor run of form has left them anchored to the bottom of the Premier League.

Leadership’s Support and Future Outlook

Club executive chairman Jeff Shi commented, “Now is the time for stability. Vítor needs time to work with the squad and to build relationships among the players on the team. We will do everything to support him, after he made a positive impact on the squad.”
