Galatasaray Target Barcelona’s Marc Casado in Late Transfer Push

Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado

Key Takeaways:

  • Marc Casado has made 19 appearances and played 871 minutes for Barcelona this season
  • Galatasaray have been reported to shortlist Casado as a transfer target ahead of the window closing
  • Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have also expressed interest in Casado recently

Transfer Interest Intensifies as Window Draws to a Close

As the January transfer window approaches its final week, Barcelona’s 22-year-old midfielder Marc Casado is increasingly being linked with a move away from the Camp Nou. Following a breakthrough campaign last season, Casado’s opportunities have been limited this term, making only 19 appearances and accumulating 871 minutes on the pitch.

Most recently, despite Pedri picking up an injury after one hour of play, Casado remained unused on the bench during Barcelona’s victory over Slavia Prague, with teenager Marc Bernal being favoured instead. This selection suggests Bernal has surpassed Casado in the pecking order, and there are indications that Casado is now open to exploring an exit – an option he was not prepared to consider during the previous summer window.

Galatasaray Among Clubs Monitoring Casado

Reports originating from Türkiye indicate that Galatasaray have identified Casado as one of their potential late-window signings. The Turkish club, who are looking to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline, are believed to have the Barcelona midfielder on their shortlist, according to several media outlets referenced by Sport.

Casado is currently under contract at Barcelona until 2028 and has a release clause set at €100m. However, during the summer, it was suggested that the Catalan club might have been willing to entertain offers in the region of €30m.

Interest Also Emerges from Atletico Madrid and Manchester United

Interest in Casado extends beyond Turkey. Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have both been linked with potential moves for the Spaniard. Atletico are understood to be seeking a midfield replacement for Conor Gallagher, with Casado among their options, although they are reportedly prioritising the signings of Joao Gomes or Ederson. For their part, Manchester United have reportedly held a meeting with Casado’s agent in the past week. Whether either side will formalise their interest with a concrete bid remains to be seen, but for now, Casado appears not to feature prominently in the plans of Barcelona manager Hansi Flick.
