Electoral Process Initiated at Camp Nou

Barcelona signalled the commencement of their latest presidential election cycle on Monday, confirming that Joan Laporta has vacated his post in accordance with election regulations. As outlined in Article 42.f of FC Barcelona’s statutes, any member of the club’s board wishing to be re-elected must first step aside.

The club issued an official statement: “In accordance with Article 42.f of the FC Barcelona Statutes, president Joan Laporta has stepped down from his position in order to be eligible to stand in the elections to the Board of Directors, which will be held on 15 March. This resignation was formalised at the ordinary meeting of the Board of Directors held this Monday, at which the election call was officially published.”

Nine Directors Also Resign to Contest the Election

Laporta is not the only director departing temporarily; nine of his fellow board members also submitted their resignations so they may stand for re-election. The officials who have relinquished their roles are:

  • Elena Fort (vice-president for the Institutional Area)
  • Rafael Escudero (vice-president for the Social Area)
  • Ferran Oliver
  • Josep Maria Albert
  • Javier Barbany
  • Miquel Camps
  • Aureli Mas
  • Javier Puig
  • Joan Soler i Ferré

As the club progresses towards the 15 March election, these resignations have paved the way for a caretaker board to manage operations.

Composition of the Interim Board

Following the resignations, Barcelona have appointed a new temporary board. Rafael Yuste, previously a vice-president, has assumed the role of president. Josep Cubells steps in as vice-president and secretary, while Alfons Castro has been named treasurer. The interim board is further comprised of Josep Ignasi Macià, Àngel Riudalbas, Joan Solé i Sust, and Sisco Pujol.

Anticipation Builds Ahead of March 15 Poll

The race to determine who will lead FC Barcelona for the next four years is officially underway. With the resignation of several senior figures and the appointment of a transitional board, the club has entered a formal campaign period. The outcome will be announced following the scheduled election on 15th of March, after which the new leadership team will take the reins at Camp Nou.
