Key Takeaways:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo will travel to Madrid for treatment following a right hamstring injury sustained in Al Nassr’s 3-1 victory over Al Fayha last weekend
  • Al Nassr have yet to specify a recovery timeline for the 41-year-old forward, with his participation in the upcoming match against Neom uncertain
  • Ronaldo is currently third in the Saudi Pro League top scorers’ table with 21 goals, trailing Ivan Toney’s 23 from 23 matches

Injury Blow for Al Nassr as Ronaldo Departs for Treatment

Al Nassr’s preparations for the remainder of the season have been dealt a significant setback, as Cristiano Ronaldo is set to head to Madrid for treatment of a right hamstring injury. The Portuguese international was forced off the pitch during Al Nassr’s 3-1 Saudi Pro League triumph over Al Fayha last weekend. Head coach Jorge Jesus confirmed today that medical assessment revealed the injury to be more severe than initially suspected, and that Ronaldo would require a period of rest and specialised recovery.

“In the last game, Cristiano left with a muscle injury. After the tests he underwent, it became clear that it is a more serious injury than we were expecting. He will need rest and recovery. Cristiano will travel to Spain for treatment, as will other players who were injured. He will need treatment from his personal physiotherapist. We hope he will return soon to help the team,” Jorge Jesus told reporters ahead of Saturday’s home fixture against Neom Sports Club.

Timetable for Return Remains Uncertain

Al Nassr have not disclosed an estimated date for Ronaldo’s comeback, increasing doubt over his availability for both club and international duty in the coming weeks. The 41-year-old forward will be striving to regain fitness in order to represent Portugal when they take on Mexico at the upgraded Azteca Stadium on March 28, and later the United States on March 31 in Atlanta, Georgia – both fixtures serving as preparation for the World Cup.

Saudi Pro League Golden Boot Race

Despite the injury setback, Ronaldo remains a pivotal figure in the Saudi Pro League scoring charts. With 21 goals to his name this season, the Portugal captain currently occupies third spot in the race for the Golden Boot. English striker Ivan Toney leads the way for Al Ahli with 23 goals from 23 appearances. Al Nassr retain a slender two-point advantage over Al Ahli at the summit of the league table.

Looking Ahead

Al Nassr face uncertainty over their attacking options as they host Neom Sports Club in the league. The club and supporters alike will be hoping for a swift recovery for Ronaldo, whose leadership and goal-scoring prowess have been key to Al Nassr’s position at the top of the table.
