Tottenham Begin Talks with Hutter as Igor Tudor’s Position Grows Unstable

Adi Hutter

Key Takeaways:

  • Tottenham have opened negotiations with Adi Hutter regarding their managerial role
  • Igor Tudor has only managed one win since his appointment, and Spurs sit 17th in the Premier League, just one point clear of West Ham in the relegation zone
  • The club are next in action on April 12, away at Sunderland, having last secured a league victory in December against Crystal Palace

Managerial Uncertainty Surrounds Tottenham

Reports from France indicate that Tottenham Hotspur have already initiated discussions with Adi Hutter about the possibility of him taking over as head coach. Igor Tudor’s tenure appears under severe scrutiny following a series of disappointing results, with only a solitary victory since his arrival.

The latest setback – a 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest – has intensified doubts over Tudor’s future, coming just after an encouraging win over Atletico Madrid. Spurs currently find themselves in 17th place in the Premier League, sitting a mere point above rivals West Ham and dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Personal Tragedy Strikes as Club Faces Tumult

After Tottenham’s loss to Nottingham Forest, Igor Tudor received the tragic news of his father Mario’s passing. In his absence, assistant coach Bruno Saltor stepped in to handle media duties. While the club remains sensitive to Tudor’s personal situation, it is increasingly felt that a mutual parting of ways is likely. This would allow Tudor, aged 47, to focus on private matters and permit Tottenham to fully address the urgent fight for Premier League survival.

Candidates for the Spurs Hot Seat

According to L’Equipe, Adi Hutter has been contacted by the club and discussions with the former Monaco boss are already underway. The Austrian coach led Monaco from 2023 until his dismissal late last year. However, no agreement has been reached yet and Hutter, 56, lacks experience in English football’s top flight. He is not alone on Tottenham’s list of options.

Other names linked with the north London post include Roberto De Zerbi, and the previously shortlisted Marco Rose and Edin Terzic. There is also speculation around former head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Although he has been suggested as a candidate, Pochettino is currently managing the United States until after the World Cup, rendering any immediate return unlikely.

Nonetheless, Pochettino has shown his affection for English football, stating to L’Equipe: “I miss the football scene in England. I love the country, its culture, the football culture. For anyone with a competitive spirit who wants to measure themselves against others and test their limits, it’s the ideal place. Here, you have to give your best constantly.”

Recent Form and Next Fixture

Tottenham’s current form remains a concern, having failed to register a Premier League win so far this calendar year. Their most recent victory in the competition came against Crystal Palace back in December. The club now have a break until 12 April, when they travel to the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland, with much at stake for Tudor, his players and their Premier League status.
