Leadership Transition at Feyenoord

Feyenoord have officially announced Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new manager, welcoming him back to De Kuip for a second spell at the helm. The appointment was made public on Wednesday, and follows swiftly after Robin van Persie’s recent departure from the post under the guidance of newly-installed general manager Robert Eenhoorn and technical director Davy Rigaux.

Van Bronckhorst has signed a contract running for two years, and will be joined by his trusted assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, who previously worked alongside him at Liverpool.

Strategic Vision and Club Ambitions

Davy Rigaux spoke about the significance of the appointment on the club’s official website, stating: “Van Bronckhorst’s return marks a new phase, in which Feyenoord aims to build on its sporting ambitions with a manager who has extensive international experience and, moreover, knows the club’s culture inside out.”

Rigaux added: “I have been following Giovanni’s career with interest for many years. He is a consummate professional and a real character. His wide-ranging experience, combined with his Feyenoord DNA and the hunger for further success that Robert Eenhoorn and I sensed in our conversations with him, mean that we truly believe he will help take the club another step forward.”

Van Bronckhorst’s Track Record and Recent Experience

Van Bronckhorst previously led Feyenoord between 2015 and 2019, guiding them to the 2017 Eredivisie crown and thereby ending a notorious 18-year league title drought for the Rotterdam outfit. Following his initial spell at Feyenoord, the former Netherlands international took up management positions at Guangzhou R&F, Rangers FC, and Besiktas.

Most recently, he served as assistant to Arne Slot at Liverpool before Slot’s dismissal. During his earlier career, Van Bronckhorst established himself as a distinguished left-back, recognised for both his playing and managerial accomplishments.

The New Coaching Partnership at De Kuip

The incoming managerial duo, Van Bronckhorst and Hulshoff, have developed and deepened their collaboration during their time in England. According to Rigaux: “The partnership between Van Bronckhorst and Hulshoff, which was further developed and strengthened in England, provides Feyenoord with a complementary coaching duo who possess international experience, a winning mentality and an in-depth knowledge of the club. We are therefore absolutely delighted to welcome them both back to Rotterdam.”
