Brighton Complete a September Awards Double

Brighton enjoyed a standout month in September, with both Pascal Gross and head coach Fabian Hurzeler recognised in the Premier League’s monthly awards. Gross claimed the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award, while German coach Hurzeler was named Premier League Manager of the Month for the second time in his career.

The double reflected a strong run of results for Brighton, who secured two wins and a draw during September. That unbeaten sequence lifted them to third in the table, with nine goals scored and only one conceded across the month.

Gross Claims First Player of the Month Award

Pascal Gross, the 35-year-old Brighton midfielder, received the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for September after one of the finest spells of his career. It was the first time he had won the award.

Gross delivered five goal involvements during September, made up of two goals and three assists. His impressive sequence began with a goal and two assists in Brighton’s 5-0 victory over Coventry City.

He then opened the scoring against Arsenal and assisted Chema Andrés for the goal in Brighton’s 3-0 win over the defending champions. Those contributions placed him among the Premier League’s leading players for goal involvements, level with several others.

Where Gross Ranks Among Veteran Winners

At 35 years and three months old, Gross became the sixth-oldest player to win the Premier League Player of the Month award. The only players ahead of him on that list are Stuart Pearce and Teddy Sheringham, both aged 38, Cristiano Ronaldo, aged 37, Gianfranco Zola, aged 36, and Paul Scholes, who was 35 years and nine months old when he won it.

Gross also moved just ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who won the same award at 35 years and two months old.

Competition for the Player Award

Gross won the September honour ahead of a competitive shortlist that included his Brighton team-mate Charalampos Kostoulas, Mohamed Belloumi of Hull City, Jayden Bogle of Leeds United, Alexander Isak and Jeremy Jacquet of Liverpool, Kevin Schade of Brentford, and Antoine Semenyo of Manchester City.

Hurzeler Recognised After Brighton’s Unbeaten Month

Fabian Hurzeler was awarded the Premier League Manager of the Month prize for September. It was the second time in his career that he had received the accolade, and it came more than two years after his first win in August 2024.

Brighton’s September run included a major 3-0 win over Arsenal, which handed the defending champions their first defeat of the season. The Seagulls also thrashed Coventry away with a five-goal haul and drew 1-1 with Leeds United.

Hurzeler outperformed Andoni Iraola, Liverpool’s manager, and Enzo Maresca, Manchester City’s manager, after the fans’ votes were combined with the decision of a panel of experts.
