Juventus Open Talks with Hojbjerg as Openda Could Make Lyon Move Permanent

  • Juventus are set to open talks over a move for Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
  • Hojbjerg remained at Marseille over the summer after rejecting a move to Newcastle United, despite the club’s hope of selling him amid financial difficulties
  • Lois Openda is on a season-long loan at Lyon, who paid a €3m loan fee, and a permanent transfer could become possible depending on Lyon’s Ligue 1 campaign

Juventus Prepare Hojbjerg Approach

Juventus are preparing to open discussions over the signing of Olympique de Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (31), as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Hojbjerg had been expected to leave Marseille during the summer, which was also the club’s preferred outcome. OM, dealing with financial difficulties, wanted to sell the Denmark international to Newcastle United. However, the midfielder turned down that move, leaving the ownership frustrated. In response, the club decided to remove him as captain.

Despite losing the armband, Hojbjerg has continued to play regularly for Marseille and retains the firm backing of Bruno Genesio. Even so, his future remains uncertain, with the winter transfer window emerging as a possible exit point.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that initial contact with Hojbjerg’s entourage has already taken place, while further discussions are expected soon. A winter move for the midfielder is therefore on the cards.

Hojbjerg is open to leaving Marseille, provided the destination is an exciting project at a major European club.

Openda’s Lyon Loan Could Lead to Permanent Switch

Lois Openda’s spell at Lyon has only recently started, but the Ligue 1 club could look to turn the Belgian forward’s loan into a permanent move at the end of the season, Sacha Tavolieri has told Tutto Juve.

Openda was unable to establish himself at Juventus and left the Italian giants just one year after joining them. His move to Lyon is a season-long loan, with OL paying a €3m loan fee for the Belgium international. The agreement does not include a buy option.

Even without a purchase clause, a permanent transfer to the Groupama Stadium remains possible. Tavolieri understands that such a scenario is realistic, but it will depend heavily on Lyon’s league performance this season.

“A permanent move? It will obviously depend on the club’s sporting results: if OL were to have a good season in Ligue 1 and manage to qualify for the Champions League next year, there’s a scenario in which they could make an offer to buy him outright,” the Franco-Belgian journalist told Tutto Juve.

Form and Context

Openda has registered two goals and one assist in nine games for Les Gones. Lyon currently sit second in Ligue 1, two points behind leaders AS Monaco.

The two situations underline Juventus’ active connection to the French market: one potential incoming move involving Hojbjerg from Marseille, and one outgoing loan involving Openda, whose longer-term future could be shaped by Lyon’s results this season.
