Key Takeaways:

  • Luka Doncic registered 40 points, marking his sixth consecutive game with at least 35 points
  • Doncic surpassed 300 points in his first eight games of the season, the first player to do so since Michael Jordan in 1988-89
  • Darius Acuff Jr. tallied 22 points and 12 assists for Sacramento, who have now lost all three home games to start the season

Game Recap: Doncic Extends Scoring Streak as Lakers Triumph

Luka Doncic delivered another standout performance on Wednesday evening, guiding the Los Angeles Lakers to a 116-103 victory over the Sacramento Kings. With this win, the Lakers have secured their seventh victory in nine games this season. Doncic, central to the Lakers’ success, scored 40 points, continuing his streak of six straight matches with at least 35 points. He also contributed nine rebounds and seven assists, further cementing his dominance on the court.

Historic Scoring Feats and On-Court Incident

Making six shots from behind the arc and converting 12 of 13 attempts from the free-throw line, Doncic has played in eight of Los Angeles’ nine games so far, accumulating 308 points. This achievement makes him the first player to exceed the 300-point threshold in his opening eight games since Michael Jordan’s 303 points in the 1988-89 campaign. Only Wilt Chamberlain has scored more across his first eight games of a season, achieving this feat three times, with his highest tally reaching 418 points in the 1962-63 season.

Doncic was also part of an incident late in the third quarter, after a ball had gone out of bounds near the baseline. A fan sitting courtside threw the ball forcefully at official Chelisa Painter. Doncic immediately pointed at the spectator and appeared to say something, prompting security to intervene and remove the individual from the venue.

Kings’ Struggles Continue; Lakers Build Momentum

Despite their recent win in Dallas, the Kings could not sustain their momentum and now sit at 1-7, having suffered defeats in all three home games so far. Rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. led Sacramento with 22 points and 12 assists, while Zach LaVine contributed 21 points and Domantas Sabonis posted a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.

For the Lakers, Austin Reaves added crucial support with 21 points.
