Klopp Cuts Germany Selection After 44-Player Squad
Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp has confirmed a streamlined 24-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Serbia and the Netherlands, a notable reduction after he selected an extraordinary 44-player group during the previous international window.
The 59-year-old coach has blended established options, returning players and emerging talent as Germany prepare to travel to Serbia on November 13 before hosting the Netherlands in Berlin on November 16. Klopp’s side are currently third in their Nations League group.

Füllkrug Recalled After Strong Bremen Form
Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug is back in the Germany squad for the first time since September 2025. The 33-year-old has produced an impressive start to the 2026/27 Bundesliga campaign, scoring nine goals in eight league appearances since returning to Bremen.
Füllkrug’s form has pushed him back into contention despite earlier debate around his age and Germany’s longer-term squad planning. The striker has scored 14 goals in 24 senior international appearances.
Klopp had previously discussed Füllkrug’s international prospects during his halftime appearance on DAZN’s broadcast of Bayern Munich’s Champions League encounter with Arsenal in October. Then the former Liverpool coach acknowledged the forward’s excellent form, while also stressing that Germany’s preparations for Euro 2028 required a balance between immediate requirements and longer-term planning.
Following the decision to include Füllkrug in the November squad, Klopp has clarified those comments in a video interview distributed by the DFB. He also revealed that he and Füllkrug had spoken personally well before Thursday’s squad announcement.
“Good form and scoring goals are never a bad thing,” Klopp explained. “Fülle has been performing and scoring all kinds of goals, almost all of them spectacular. He has an incredible influence on Werder Bremen, not just through his goals, but also through the way he carries himself.”
Klopp also addressed his earlier television remarks directly.
“We’d talked about each other so much that I thought we might as well talk to each other,” Klopp explained. “I’m obviously not thrilled with the statements I made in that half-time interview, but what I said about Fülle were just facts.”
The Germany coach made clear that Füllkrug’s age would not block a place in the squad if his performances justified selection.
“If the European Championship were tomorrow, we’d naturally take him. There’s no question about that,” Klopp said. “From that perspective, the nomination was relatively easy. It was a pleasure to make the decision and a pleasure to tell him.”
Füllkrug welcomed the recall as evidednt in comments released by Werder Bremen.
“I’m delighted about the nomination,” the Bremen striker said in comments released by his club. “I’ve benefited from the good performances of our team, and I see it as wonderful recognition for the entire squad.”
Mohya Included for First Senior Germany Call-Up
Borussia Mönchengladbach youngster Wael Mohya has been handed his first senior national-team call-up. The emerging talent has recorded four goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances and is set to turn 18 in December.
Klopp has also kept faith with five players who made their senior Germany debuts during his first international window. Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, Köln attacker Said El Mala, Freiburg pair Philipp Treu and Derry Scherhant, and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Younes Ebnoutalib have all been retained for the Nations League fixtures.
VfB Stuttgart defender Finn Jeltsch and RB Leipzig attacker Brajan Gruda are still part of the squad, although neither has yet made a senior international debut.
Major Absences and Injury Situation
RB Leipzig captain David Raum, Nick Woltemade and Karim Adeyemi are among the more prominent names absent from the squad. Bayern Munich duo Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala remain unavailable because of injury.
