Yesterday, the 3rd of January, marked the deadline for teams that qualified for the African Cup of Nations 2023 to submit their final squads. After the managers revealed their squads, it became clear that Victor Osimhen, Mohamed Salah, and Achraf Hakimi will be the three stars with the highest market value, according to Transfermarkt.
Victor Osimhen of Nigeria, valued at €110 million, will be the tournament’s most expensive player when it begins on January 13th in Cote d’Ivoire. He was the top scorer in Serie A last season, but so far in the 2023/24 season Osimhen has has scored 7 league goals. The Super Eagles’ striker recently signed a new deal with Napoli. Osimhen alone has a higher market valuation than 14 of the teams participating in Afcon 2023.
Surprisingly or not, in December of 2023, Victor Osimhen was crowned as the best African player for the year, with Salah and Hakimi completing the top 3.

Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi share the same market value estimates, both valued at €65 million. Salah has once again been the force behind Liverpool’s title push and is currently the Premier League joint top-scorer along with Erling Haaland, both on 14 goals. On top of that, Salah also leads the Premier League in assists with 8. As for Hakimi, yesterday, 3rd of January he won first trophy for the season with PSG, triumphing in the French Super Cup against Toulouse.
