Victor Boniface to miss the African Cup of Nations through injury

Victor Boniface has suffered a groin injury and will not take part at the African Cup of Nations 2023. Nigeria has been handed a heavy blow, as their opening game at the continental tournament against Equatorial Guinia is just six days away. The striker will also miss the Super Eagles’ other two Group A games, against the hosting nation Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau.

Boniface is expected to miss around six weeks of action, including Bundesliga’s top of the table clash against Bayern Munich set for 10th of February. Nigeria will stripped of the services of Bayer Leverkusen’s leading goal scorer who is enjoying a stellar campaign in the German top flight with 10 goals and with 7 assists so far.

Nigeria is well stacked up in front and might not feel Boniface’s absence. In the attacking third, The Super Eagles boast the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Kelechi Iheanacho, Tarem Moffi and Umar Sadiq, who all beside Iheanacho perform on club level in Europe’s top 5 leagues.
