Inter defeat Napoli to win 3rd straight Italian Super Cup

Inter prevailed via slender 1:0 over Napoli in Riyadh last night to triumph with the Italian Super Cup trophy. Nerazzurri’s captain Lautaro Martinez scored the decisive goal in the stoppage time of the game to deliver a 3rd consecutive Super Cup for his team. The goal took the Argentine’s tally to 123 career goals with Inter, thus equalling Christian Vieri in the 9th place of Inter’s all-time top goalscorers.

Inter dominated the on-field proceedings for large part of the match and were helped by Giovanne Simeone’s dismissal on the hour mark. Napoli ended the game with only 1 shot on target, while the Inter players were accurate with 6 shots, but only one found the back of the net.

It was a historic night for Inter’s manager Simone Inzaghi as well. Last night he lifted the Italian Super Cup trophy for a 5th time in his career, having won two with his previous club Lazio.
