Kepa to return to Chelsea as Real Madrid want to extend Andriy Lunin’s contract

It seems that Real Madrid has made a decision regarding the goalkeeper position for the upcoming season. Los Blancos will opt for Thibaut Courtois to be the regular starter in 2024/25 after the Belgian suffered an ACL injury and has not played a single minute this term. Anriy Lunin has earned the trust of Carlo Ancelotti, and Real Madrid will enter negotiations to extend the Ukrainian’s contract, which currently runs out in the summer of 2025.

This decision means Kepa will have to return to Chelsea after failing to impress in his return to LaLiga. Initially preferred in place of Lunin, Kepa has played in 18 games with 7 clean sheets, while Lunin has featured in 24 matches across all tournaments, keeping 11 clean sheets. Last week, the Ukrainian goalkeeper signed with Jorge Mendez’s agency and will be represented by the Portuguese super-agent in future talks.

Real Madrid enjoys a healthy 8-point lead over 2nd-placed Barcelona in LaLiga’s standings, as they are now preparing for their next game on April 9th in the Champions League against Manchester City at Santiago Bernabeu.
