Thiago Alcantara has been appointed as a new member of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff at Barcelona following his recent retirement from professional football. The former midfielder will also accompany the team on their pre-season tour in the USA.

Thiago recently announced his retirement after an illustrious career. He played for top clubs such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool, and earned 46 caps for Spain. The Spaniard achieved significant success, including two Champions League titles, seven Bundesliga titles, and two La Liga titles. His addition to Barcelona’s coaching staff brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. Thiago’s knowlegde of German and Spanish languages will play a key role in communications between players and manager.

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will not travel with Barcelona for their pre-season tour in the USA. The club has decided to grant him and fellow Spanish internationals Pedri and Ferran Torres, a full rest period. Barcelona also had Fermín López in the Spain squad, but he played only 29 minutes at Euro 2024 and will join Spain’s squad for the Olympic Games in Paris. The Catalan team will head to the USA on July 28 for three friendly matches and will return approximately ten days later.
