FA changes referee for Community Shield derby between City and United

The English Football Association has been forced to change the referee for the upcoming clash between Manchester City and Manchester United for the Community Shield trophy this Saturday. Initially, John Brooks was set to officiate the match, but he has suffered a minor injury. As a result, his place will be taken by Jarred Gillett, who was originally designated as the fourth official. This match marks the first meeting between the city rivals since the FA Cup final at the end of last season, which Manchester United won 2-1. The unexpected victory secured the Red Devils a spot in the Europa League and played a big role in Erik ten Hag’s continued tenure at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, on the transfer front, Manchester United has shifted its focus to Burnley midfielder Sander Berge. Talks have started with his representatives, and the club seems to have made their decision on their new defensive midfielder. Initially, United was interested in Manuel Ugarte, but the high price set by Paris Saint-Germain deterred them. Recently, the club inquired about Berge and Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, but it appears they have settled on the Norwegian.

Berge’s price is significantly lower compared to Ugarte and Fofana, both valued at around €60 million. According to The Sun and The Mirror, Burnley has set a price of £30 million for the 26-year-old Norwegian. The Red Devils currently willing to pay £20 million and are prepared to offer Berge a weekly salary of £100,000.

On the other hand, Julian Alvarez is leaving Manchester City for a hefty fee and it will be curious to see who Pep Guardiola will target to replace the 2022 World Cup winner.
