Vincent Kompany on Bayern’s free scoring form away from home: “I don’t know why that is”

Bayern Munich’s head coach Vincent Kompany acknowledged his team’s remarkable attacking form this autumn in away games across the Bundesliga and the German Cup, where they have scored at least three goals in each of their seven visits. Despite this consistent success on the road, Kompany admitted uncertainty about why Bayern has been so effective away from the Allianz Arena. “Good question. Honestly, I don’t know why that is” Kompany remarked during a press conference.

Kompany emphasized that there is no major tactical shift between home and away games, stating, “I don’t think we differentiate too much between away games and home games. Obviously, it is extra motivation to play in our Allianz Arena”. He noted that the team has faced a high volume of away fixtures, adding, “Our plan does not change whether we play against St Pauli away or at home.”

Offering a possible explanation, Kompany suggested, “Maybe that is the reason we have scored so much. Maybe it is the opponents changing their plans”. He further highlighted their approach, saying, “We have prepared for what we have seen, and we hope it will work on the day”.

Regarding the contract situation of Alphonso Davies, which is due to expire in June, Kompany shifted the focus to the club management, stating, “That is the job of our directors. For me, it’s about the sporting aspect”. Kompany expressed confidence in Davies’ current form, adding, “If he plays, that means he deserves it with his performances and he’s doing very well”.
