Barcelona director Deco reveals the club is preparing contract extensions for Pedri, Gavi, Araujo, and de Jong

Barcelona director Deco has expressed his confidence in renewing the contracts of the team’s young core. Pedri is one of those players, with Deco commenting: “Pedri’s contract renewal will happen because he wants to succeed at Barça”. The former midfielder stressed that the club’s focus is on winning major titles this season while also ensuring the long-term future of key players like Pedri.

Deco also expressed optimism about Gavi’s contract situation. “I can see Gavi signing a new contract with us at Barça, for sure” he said. The director praised the young midfielder’s significance, stating, “Gavi personifies everything that Barça is. He is a special player. He’s only 20 but it looks like he’s 26 or 27.” Deco underlined the importance of player commitment, saying, “When a player wants to stay, it will be done”.

Regarding Ronald Araújo’s potential new deal, Deco indicated ongoing discussions, stating, “I imagine that Araújo wants to be part of our project”. He acknowledged that aligning the club’s goals with the players’ intentions is essential, adding, “We’re working on it but it’s important that the players’ ideas are in line with ours. We know what we want but it always depends on the players”.

On Frenkie de Jong’s contract, Deco described it as a “normal process” and highlighted the club’s approach given financial constraints. “He’s a top-quality player, we are working on contracts also considering our limits” Deco said, noting that they are handling the matter discreetly, adding, “We keep working in silence on that, it’s my plan”.
