Steph Curry’s historic night spoils Klay Thompson’s return to Chase Center

The Golden State Warriors opened their NBA Cup tournament campaign with a thrilling 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, led by a dominant performance from Stephen Curry. The two-time MVP put up 37 points, six rebounds, nine assists, one steal, and two blocks while shooting 14-of-27 from the field and 5-of-12 from beyond the arc in 35 minutes of play. Curry’s fourth-quarter heroics, including scoring the Warriors’ final 12 points and a crucial three-pointer, secured the win for Golden State and helped the team improve to a 9-2 record. The Mavs are now with a 5-6 record and occupy 11th spot in the Western Conference.

The game, which served as the first match of the NBA Cup tournament, was particularly significant as it marked Klay Thompson’s return to the Chase Center. Facing his former team for the first time since joining the Mavericks, Thompson delivered an impressive showing with 22 points. Despite his strong performance, Curry’s stellar play overshadowed his former teammate’s efforts. The two, who previously won four NBA Championships together, put on a memorable show for fans.

Curry also made NBA history, joining LeBron James and Michael Jordan as the only players aged 36 or older to record consecutive 35-point games. He also became the oldest point guard to register consecutive 30 point games.
