Claudio Ranieri returns for 3rd stint at Roma

Claudio Ranieri has officially signed all necessary documents, marking his return as AS Roma’s head coach. Ranieri arrived in Rome from London last night to finalize his comeback. The veteran manager, known for his remarkable achievement in leading Leicester City to the 2015/16 Premier League title, most recently managed Cagliari in Serie B between January and June of this year, where he guided them to promotion.

Ranieri has previously managed AS Roma twice, first from September 2009 to February 2011, and later from March 2019 until the end of the 2018/19 Serie A season in June. His return comes in the wake of Roma’s 2-3 home loss to Bologna, their fifth league defeat of the season. The result proved to be the final match for manager Ivan Juric, who was dismissed shortly afterward. Juric had taken over from Daniele De Rossi at the start of the 2024/25 season following Roma’s winless run in their first four league matches. In his brief 12-match tenure, Juric secured only 10 points from eight Serie A games and recorded just four wins across all competitions.

Roma’s struggles have left them in 13th place in the Serie A standings, with 13 points, just four clear of the relegation zone. The club will hope Ranieri’s experience and leadership can steer them out of their current difficulties and bring stability to the team.
