Javier Mascherano set to become Inter Miami’s head coach, reuniting with Messi, Suarez, Alba, and Busquets

Javier Mascherano will be the new head coach of Inter Miami, with all agreements finalized and documents being prepared. The Argentine manager, known for his close friendship with Leo Messi, will step in following Tata Martino’s resignation for personal reasons.

Despite an impressive regular season where they finished as the top seed, Inter Miami’s MLS Cup playoff campaign ended prematurely with a first-round loss to Atlanta United. The early exit marked a bittersweet conclusion to a record-breaking 2024 season for the club.

Javier Mascherano enjoyed a distinguished playing career, representing clubs such as River Plate, Corinthians, West Ham United, Liverpool, and Barcelona. His most successful stint came at Barcelona, where he won multiple La Liga titles, Copa del Rey trophies, and two Champions League titles. On the international stage, Mascherano was a key figure for Argentina, winning gold medals at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and reaching the 2014 World Cup final. As a manager, the former defensive midfielder has worked only with Argentina’s national team and youth setups.

At Inter Miami, Mascherano will reunite with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Messi. This marks a new chapter for the club as they aim to build on their recent successes under their new coach.
