River Plate defeated their great rivals Boca Juniors 2-1 in the Superclasico from the 15th round of the Argentine championship. The match will go down in history as the most attended encounter between the two sides, with over 85,000 spectators filling the Monumental Stadium and creating an incredible choreography before kickoff. Tickets for the clash sold out in less than two hours, marking the 85th consecutive sold-out match for River at their home ground. Franco Mastantuono (26′) and Sebastian Driussi (45′) scored for Los Millonarios, while Miguel Merentiel (39′) was on target for the visitors.

The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute after a superbly executed free-kick by teenager Franco Mastantuono. However, Boca quickly responded and got back into the match. In the 39th minute, Miguel Merentiel capitalized on a defensive error, stole the ball, and calmly finished to make it 1-1. Right at the end of the first half, River once again pulled ahead.

Sebastian Driussi first saw his close-range header saved, but he made no mistake with the rebound to restore River’s advantage at 2-1.

With the victory, River climbed to third place in Group B of the Apertura with 28 points. Boca, meanwhile, remains top of Group A with 32 points. Both teams have already secured their spots in the knockout stages.
