Scott McTominay brace sends Napoli three points clear atop Serie A

Napoli players celebrate after Scott McTominay has scored against Torino

    Key Takeaways:

  • Scott McTominay scored both goals as Napoli defeated Torino 2-0
  • Napoli moved three points clear at the top of Serie A after Inter’s home loss to Roma
  • Torino remained 10th in the Serie A standings despite recording 13th league loss for the season

Napoli took advantage of Inter’s slip to pull clear at the top of Serie A and gain an edge in the race for the Scudetto. Antonio Conte’s men secured a 2-0 home win over Torino in their 34th round match and now sit three points ahead of the Nerazzurri, who lost 0-1 at home to Roma. The big hero of the night was Scott McTominay, who scored both goals for the Partenopei in the 7th and 41st minutes.

The Scotsman opened the scoring in the 7th minute, tapping in from close range after a pass from Frank Zambo Anguissa. In the 41st minute, he was once again celebrating with his teammates, netting in almost identical fashion, this time following a cross from Matteo Politano on the right.

In the 61st minute, the hosts at the Diego Maradona Stadium came close to a third goal, but luck deserted Philip Billing, whose header struck the crossbar.

With this victory, Napoli moved to the top of the table with 74 points, while Inter sit second with 71. Torino remain 10th with 43 points.
