    Key Takeaways:

  • Roma defeated Inter 1-0 to remain unbeaten in Serie A since the start of the year
  • Matias Soule scored the only goal of the match after a scramble in the 22nd minute
  • Inter suffered their third straight domestic defeat after losses to Bologna and Milan

Roma recorded a crucial 1-0 away victory over Inter in the most anticipated match of Serie A’s 34th round. Matias Soule scored the only goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Thus, the Wolves remain unbeaten in the Italian top flight since the start of the year, while the Nerazzurri suffered their third consecutive domestic defeat after a 0-1 loss to Bologna in the last round and a 0-3 defeat to Milan in the Coppa Italia.

As early as the fourth minute, Federico Dimarco could have scored from a free-kick, but his shot ended up in the hands of Mile Svilar. Two minutes later, Davide Frattesi managed to put the ball into the net, but the flag was immediately raised for offside against Carlos Augusto. In the 15th minute, there was a forced substitution as Bisseck replaced Pavard, who had injured his ankle in an awkward incident earlier. Things got even worse for the hosts in the 22nd minute when they fell behind. A blocked shot from Lorenzo Pellegrini caused a scramble, which Soule capitalised on, scoring with a close-range finish.

Just three minutes later, Bryan Cristante could have doubled Roma’s lead, but his volley from an excellent position went wide. Roma’s pressure, however, subsided, and by halftime, Lautaro Martinez (twice), Marko Arnautovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Federico Dimarco, and Carlos Augusto all squandered chances for Inter.

The Nerazzurri continued to press at the start of the second half but managed only a shot from distance in the 63rd minute, when Calhanoglu missed the target. Meanwhile, substitutes Tommaso Baldanzi and Matias Soule missed opportunities to double Roma’s lead. Inter’s inaccurate shooting continued with two more attempts by Lautaro, while for Roma, Nicolo Pisilli and Artem Dovbyk also missed the mark.

In the closing minutes, Calhanoglu, Arnautovic, and Piotr Zielinski failed to score an equaliser, while Gianluca Mancini twice, as well as substitutes Lukasz Gurna-Douath and Devyne Rensch, were unable to extend Roma’s advantage. The referee also waved away Inter’s penalty appeals, leaving the hosts unable to avoid defeat.
