The visitors created the more dangerous chances early on, but Mat Sels made several important saves for the hosts. Brentford took the lead just before the break when Kevin Schade received a long ball from Nathan Collins, beat two Forest defenders and found the net.
Forest showed improvement after the restart and Anthony Elanga came close to equalising, only to see his shot saved by Mark Flekken and pushed out for a corner. Chris Wood also wasted a good opportunity to score for the home side.
In the 70th minute, Flekken took a goal kick and Nikola Milenkovic made a crucial mistake that allowed Yoane Wissa to find himself one-on-one with Sels. The Congolese striker lobbed the Forest goalkeeper and scored his 17th goal of the season. Near the end of the match, Bryan Mbeumo nearly made it 3:0 for Brentford with a curling effort that just cleared the crossbar.
