Arsenal and Chelsea eye Rodrygo as Xabi Alonso set to assess Real Madrid squad

    Key Takeaways:

  • Rodrygo’s stay at Real Madrid depends on Xabi Alonso’s plans
  • Arsenal and Chelsea are closely monitoring the Brazilian winger
  • Chelsea have not made contact yet, but interest remains strong

Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid is the subject of intense speculation, with Arsenal and Chelsea closely monitoring the Brazilian forward’s situation. Although he has not expressed a desire to leave nor received any indication from the club that he is unwanted, his stay in Madrid will depend on the decisions of incoming manager Xabi Alonso, according to Spanish daily AS.

The Spanish coach, who will officially take over Real Madrid on 1 June 2025, intends to evaluate the squad and set his priorities before any moves are made in the transfer market. The 24-year-old Rodrygo has been an important part of Los Blancos since arriving in 2019, but the arrival of new signings and the need to balance finances may lead the club to consider a sale. This season, the winger has made 51 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists.

Arsenal are among the first clubs to position themselves for the Brazilian. With Martin Zubimendi practically secured and a move for a striker — Viktor Gyokeres is on their list — also on the agenda, the Gunners’ hierarchy have already made initial informal contact regarding the winger, though there has been no further progress or official offer.

Across the English capital, Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on him. The Blues believe Rodrygo could become a key figure next season, especially on the flank, an area where they have struggled.
