Rafa Leao tops Bayern’s four-man winger shortlist if Sane leaves

Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane

    Key Takeaways:

  • Bayern identify Rafael Leao as top winger target but deem €100M fee too high
  • Kaoru Mitoma, Nico Williams and Takefusa Kubo are also considered
  • Ongoing contract talks with Leroy Sane may affect transfer decision

Bayern Munich’s management is looking to sign a new left winger during the summer transfer window. Their top target is Portugal international Rafael Leao from Milan, according to “Bild”. However, a deal for him appears difficult to pull off, as the Rossoneri are expected to demand at least €100 million for the player – a sum the Bavarians are not prepared to pay.

The club’s sporting department has several other names on its shortlist. One of them is Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton. So far, Bayern have not made contact with the Seagulls regarding a potential transfer of the 28-year-old.

Another option is Nico Williams. The Spain international from Athletic Bilbao has a release clause worth €60 million. The winger is admired by Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl, but he is believed to be seeking a very high salary at his next club. Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad is also being considered.

Meanwhile, Bayern are continuing talks with Leroy Sane. If the Germany international agrees to the offer for a new contract, then the need to bring in another left winger would become less pressing. Sane’s current deal expires at the end of the month.
