Portuguese giants Benfica defeated German champions Bayern Munich 1–0 in their final Group C match at the new Club World Cup. Benfica goalkeeper Trubin also impressed with a series of brilliant saves.

With this win, Benfica finished top of the group with seven points, while Bayern also advanced but as runners-up with six points. Benfica will now face the second-placed team from Group D, which includes Chelsea, in the Round of 16. Bayern will meet Flamengo.

In the opening 10 minutes, the Portuguese side created a good opportunity as Di Maria struck a diagonal shot that was brilliantly saved one-handed by Neuer. In the 13th minute, Di Maria carried the ball forward and passed to the flank for Aursnes, who delivered a brilliant assist to Schjelderup. The forward finished from the penalty spot, sending the ball into the net past Neuer.

In the 38th minute, Di Maria controlled a fine pass on the edge of the box and with one motion unleashed a shot, but it flew well over the crossbar. Shortly after, Sane beat a defender inside the box and fired, but again sent it far over the bar.

At half-time, Kompany made three substitutions, bringing on Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Joshua Kimmich. In the 51st minute, Leroy Sane received a precise pass deep in the box and shot on goal, but Trubin pulled off an incredible save.

In the 56th minute, Benfica nearly doubled the score after Kerem Akturkoglu carved out a great chance and fired a low shot toward the centre of the goal, only for Neuer to make a classy save. Five minutes later, Kimmich managed to find the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Soon after, Harry Kane went down in the box following contact from a defender and appealed for a penalty, but none was given. In the 75th minute, a rebound fell to Aleksandar Pavlovic, who hit a low strike toward the centre of the target, but Trubin once again showed his superb goalkeeping skills.

In the 87th minute, Harry Kane delivered an incredible through ball to Sane, who went one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, but the attacker shot straight into Trubin’s body.
