The 31-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the coming hours before officially signing with his new club. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was looking to bring in an experienced midfielder after the club parted ways with Jorginho. The Danish international spent six seasons at Brentford and was one of the key figures in the club’s rise and establishment in the Premier League. In North London, he will replace Thomas Partey, with whom no agreement was reached over a new contract.
At the same time, Arsenal have finalised the transfer of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. The Spanish goalkeeper will join Arteta’s squad as a backup to first-choice keeper David Raya.
Arrizabalaga still holds the record as the most expensive goalkeeper in the world after Chelsea paid €80 million to Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018. Now, he leaves the Blues for a fee nearly 14 times lower. Over the past two seasons, he spent time on loan at Real Madrid and Bournemouth.
