Danish legend Yussuf Poulsen is leaving RB Leipzig after 12 years and will continue his career at newly promoted Bundesliga club Hamburger SV, reported DPA. The two clubs confirmed the transfer on Sunday. Hamburg did not provide details about the length of Poulsen’s contract, but the transfer fee is believed to be €1.5 million.

The 31-year-old forward joined Leipzig when the team was still in the third division. Since then, he has gone on to make a record 425 appearances for the East German side, scoring 95 goals and delivering 66 assists. Leipzig reached the Bundesliga in 2016, with Poulsen playing a key role throughout the club’s rapid rise.

At Hamburg, Poulsen will replace Davie Selke, who recently moved to Turkish side Basaksehir. HSV are returning to Germany’s top flight after seven years of absence.

Although Poulsen still had a contract with Leipzig until 2026, he chose to say goodbye. “It’s time to say goodbye. Everything comes to an end, and unfortunately, this is the end of my fairytale with Leipzig,” the Dane said in a video message to fans.
