Brentford’s new boss Keith Andrews emerges as key obstacle to Mbeumo’s move to Manchester United

    Key Takeaways:

  • Manchester United have had three bids for Bryan Mbeumo rejected by Brentford
  • Managerial change at Brentford has significantly slowed down negotiations
  • United’s only signing so far remains Matheus Cunha ahead of the U.S. tour

Bryan Mbeumo’s potential move from Brentford to Manchester United has already turned into one of the transfer sagas of the summer. Recent reports indicate there has been no real development in the deal for several weeks. The winger appeared to be very close to joining Old Trafford, with both clubs reportedly needing to finalise some details for the transfer to go through, but that never happened.

Now, Manchester Evening News reveals that the main reason seems to be the change on the managerial bench at Brentford, with Thomas Frank moving to Tottenham and being replaced by Keith Andrews. The new manager of the Londoners has significantly complicated the negotiations and has been deliberately delaying any progress in an attempt to retain the club’s best players.

This theory is supported by the words of Brentford’s sporting director Phil Giles, who also made it clear that Brentford will only do business if the offer makes real sense and fully satisfies the club’s demands.

So far, Manchester United have submitted three bids for Mbeumo, all of which have been rejected. The latest proposal was worth £60 million plus bonuses, which the Red Devils considered a completely fair valuation for the player. At this stage, neither side appears willing to back down, and United seem to be moving further away from one of their key transfer targets for the new season. The team has started pre-season preparations and are almost certain to travel to the U.S. with just one new addition in Matheus Cunha.
