Manchester City consider Ederson sale amid Galatasaray approach

Pep Guardiola pointing at Ederson

    Key Takeaways:

  • Galatasaray made an initial offer for Ederson, which City rejected
  • The Brazilian goalkeeper has reportedly agreed to a potential move
  • City are exploring James Trafford and Diogo Costa as replacements

Manchester City are seriously considering parting ways with their first-choice goalkeeper Ederson, claim multiple sources in England. Last summer, the Brazilian was close to a move to Saudi Arabia but was convinced by manager Josep Guardiola to remain for one more season. This time, however, the situation has changed – Guardiola has no intention of keeping him at all costs.

Turkish champions Galatasaray have already submitted an initial offer for Ederson, but it was rejected by the Citizens. Talks between the two clubs are expected to continue in the coming days, with the latest information suggesting that the Brazilian has already given his consent for such a transfer.

Meanwhile, City are actively working on securing a potential replacement, with two main options under consideration. The first is James Trafford – a former academy product of the Citizens, who was sold to Burnley for over €17 million. Over the past two seasons, Trafford has established himself as a reliable choice between the posts and has already been called up to the England squad, although he is yet to make his debut. The club has already spoken with him, and the goalkeeper has expressed a desire to return, provided an agreement is reached. Manchester City have a buy-back clause valued at €40 million but will attempt to negotiate a lower amount.

The second alternative is Diogo Costa from Porto – a proven Portuguese international, preferred by Guardiola for his strong footwork and consistent high-level performances in the Portuguese league and in Europe. However, his price tag of around €50 million makes the deal considerably more complex.
